Deciding to reach out for help is an act of courage, good for you! Once you have made your first appointment, we will work together to develop goals that will be beneficial to you. The core of psychotherapy really is about the relationship between me and you, and eventually our work will be about what happened when you were a child, your conflicts, and thought patterns about yourself and what you transfer onto me.
Keep in mind that as psychotherapy progresses, you may feel overwhelmed, angry, sad or more confused than you did at the beginning of the process. That doesn’t mean psychotherapy isn’t working. Instead, it is a sign that I am pushing you to confront difficult truths about yourself that is hard for you to look at and that you are doing the hard work of making changes. In such cases, these strong emotions are a sign of growth rather than evidence of a standstill. Remember, sometimes things may feel worse before they get better.
Just hang in there, the benefits of doing this work will come and are extraordinary! I look forward to working with you.
